Learning software

Hello everyone. I'm in the process of learning a new group of programs which include illustrator, after effects and flash. This piece is something I created with illustrator and tweaked in Photoshop.
I love illustrators stroke options so I decided to leave in some of my searching lines in the design.

Pod Design

Hello everyone,
I'm trying new techniques out and this is something I came up with. I'm feeling good about it and I'm going to continue ahead with my new discoveries. I'm also headed into the world of motion graphics and visual story telling. I'm excited to see where I end up.

Oh and my first Particle effect.

painting

Hey everyone,
I wanted to post this painting for several reasons. I recently interviewed with a potential client and was inspired by their ideas so this was the result of that. It also served as a little exercise I'm taking part of with my team, and that is to paint for one hr a day. This painting has two sessions within it and I think I'm around 3-4 hrs. Crits and comments more than welcome as usual.

Truth

Thus far my blog has for the most part been a recording of my growth as an artist. This post is going to be different. On this weekend where we all reflect on the events of 9/11 I find myself watching the news and surfing the web, looking for 9/11 information. I have been researching and watching informational videos on the subject for many years now. I would like to share a collection of You tube clips I have just finished watching and I must say I am disturbed greatly. There are 12 parts in all and I found the information presented to be unlike anything I have watched before. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LDVWlUy0BWo&feature=related

I was told a colleague of mine that one day you have to chose a side you believe in and today I am choosing the side of truth.

splash screen

Hi everyone. This post is a mock splash screen for an i pad casual game. Done for another art test. The idea is you control a squad of crazy bombing penguins.
I'm feeling good about my value choices throughout the piece.

space welder

Hey everyone. I watched the Hurt Locker the other night and the body armor worn during the movie inspired me to create this. This guy is a welder and he works on repairing huge space ships.
A small side note I thought the movie was really well done and it made a big impact on me.

AK-47 Texture

Hey guys here's an update of the game model. It's 1538 polys with 3 maps. I plan on getting this into a next gen engine and making it look pretty with effects.

Inspiration

Inspiration comes from all around us. This is a model of an AK-47 being done as another test for a potential employment opportunity. For inspiration I am using the students I had the privilege in instructing for 2 months. They inspired me in ways I wasn't anticipating and they made the experience a great one. Thanks guys!!!

shuttle design

Hey guys, so for Father's Day I received a really cool gift from my wife. A set of wide copic markers. This paint over comes from my first sketch with them. I also want to discuss the fact that I have been using my searching lines in my drawings to tighten up designs and help me paint on them. I'm excited about the recent discoveries and I think I need to push myself right now to see what happens. Anyhow hope everything is well out there for everyone.

hello out there

Hey guys, It's been so long I forgot how to post. I'm not kidding. So I am proud to say that I finished my first class as an instructor and I'm excited to start the second one. I was extremely proud of the effort the students put forth. Anyhow I've been trying to think real big lately in terms of shape and design and I thought these drawings benefited from that. One more thought Dispickable Me is a great film!!!!!!

Horn Tree

Hey everyone. So this is what I handed in to compete for an interview with 38 Studios. I tried very hard to create a moment in time in which your character might encounter during the game. In my mind this turns into a boss battle. First monster ants come out of it and then the tree activates to life.

Maybe you have to get to the horns somehow to defeat the tree. OHHHHH and I bought my first Syd Mead book and I'm inspired to the highest level. I'm going to post some marker renders. I could write a thesis on why I love his art so much!!!!

update on tree

Hello out there, here is an update and I'm about to move forward to the low poly. Found out I have a few extra days to work so I added the extra vines holding the graphic icon. I like the mushrooms I added around the sculpt as well. Side note, my opinion of zbrush being awesome is now even bigger with the added feature of shadowbox. Definitely check it out.

Horn Tree on Copperhead Mountain

Hi guys, here's a sculpt I'm working on for an environment test so to speak. Lots to do and its' dead line looms. I'm giving myself one more day to design, think and model. I was thinking of hanging something like a power up from the branch. Put a little game play in it.

dragon heads

Hey guys, I went on a job interview a couple days ago and I came out of it inspired to draw something cartoon oriented. I started looking at Nico Marlet, a concept artist who worked on how to train your dragon and I came up with these.

Creature Design

Hey guys, so lately I have been studying how value makes form read clearly. Form change = value change and a system taught by Scott Robertson called halfway to black. Anyhow I chose to rework this old design and implement these new findings.

Fashion Demo Sketch

So I found a job post online last night and did this little mock up page to send to the contractor. Job consists of drawing fashion designs for a book and I'm really hoping I get a call back on this one.

Hellboy Featured

Hey everyone, so for the longest time now I have been meaning to go back into this character and clean up the normals and actually give the diffuse map a little much needed love. I got a little motivation when asked to be featured on the website http://nvisioncg.com. I can't express enough how thankful I am to Del, the editor of the site. As for the model, I'm still sorting out the spec map and I'm going to look deeply into creating fabrics better. So make sure to check out the link and feel free to send your own work for submission.

Art Test Results

Hey everyone I'm posting to share the results of an art test I have taken for a studio down south. The challenge was to create a 1,200 poly zombie character and texture it using a 512X512. I must say for an test I had a great deal of fun and for reference used the mailman from Seinfeld. Newman!!!!!! Anyhow I was really pumped about the 2 head drawings in upper left hand corner of the concept page and excited about the personality in the final model.

sculpting and painting W.I.P.

Hey everyone, been working on a few projects as of late and I wanted to post some images. The first 2 are sculpts in Zbrush which started with the amazing Zsketch and Zsphere features. The third piece is a painting I have been working on. My goal in this painting is to not draw the forms but to paint it using shape, value, color.

catapult concept

This was an idea for something at my last job that never made it. A demon catapult that throws massive mine balls that explode over the enemy to rain down magic bone fragments like a cluster bomb. I found it buried in a folder so I decided to keet going on it. I thought it would make for a great toy.

Pen sketches from the hospital

First off it is so frigin good to be home with the family together. Emily is doing fantastic and we go for our follow up in early Feb. Watching are little girl fight to get better for 2 months straight has made me a different man. She is only 11 months old but has already taught me so much. If my wife wasn't such a big help during all of this I really don't know how I would have made it through. I love you babe.

These sketches were done during the late nights awake at the hospital. I worked on technical drawing, penmanship and one point perspective a lot during this time and had many drawings to edit through. These are the ones I enjoyed. My wife actually picked most of them. Happy to be home and blogging again!!!!!!!!!!!!
